Overview

Production templates are reusable checklists you build once and use every baking day. Instead of writing out your steps from memory each time, you start from a template and get straight to work.

What Is a Production Template?

A production template is a saved list of steps for a common baking workflow. Think of it as your go-to game plan for a type of production day — bread day, cookie day, cake prep, or market prep. Each template contains:
  • A descriptive name (for example, “Saturday Market Prep”)
  • An ordered list of production steps
  • Notes on individual steps, if needed
When you start a production day using a template, all those steps load into The Pass as your checklist. You can then customize them for that specific day without changing the original template.

Creating a Template from Scratch

  1. Tap The Pass in the main navigation.
  2. Tap Templates.
  3. Tap New Template.
  4. Give your template a name that describes the workflow.
  5. Tap Add Step to add your first production step.
  6. Enter the step description. Be specific — “Scale dry ingredients for sourdough” is more useful than “Prep.”
  7. Continue adding steps until your workflow is complete.
  8. Tap Save.
Your template is now available whenever you start a new production day.
Pro tip: Write steps in the order you actually do them. When baking day arrives, you can work straight down the list without jumping around.

Starting from a Starter Template

Knead includes starter templates for common baking workflows. These give you a head start so you do not have to build every template from zero.
  1. Tap The Pass in the main navigation.
  2. Tap Templates.
  3. Tap New Template.
  4. Choose from one of the available starter templates.
  5. Review the pre-built steps and adjust them to match your process.
  6. Rename the template to something meaningful to you.
  7. Tap Save.
Starter templates are a starting point. Edit, reorder, add, or remove steps to fit how you actually work.

Adding and Reordering Steps

You can add steps to any template at any time.
  1. Open the template you want to edit.
  2. Tap Add Step to insert a new step.
  3. Type the step description.
  4. Drag steps up or down to change the order.
  5. Tap Save when finished.
Each step should describe one clear action. Break large tasks into smaller steps so you can track progress accurately.
Good to know: Editing a template does not change checklists already in progress. Your changes apply the next time you use the template.

Using a Template on Production Day

When you are ready to start baking:
  1. Tap The Pass in the main navigation.
  2. Tap Start Production Day.
  3. Choose the template you want to use.
  4. The template steps load into your checklist for the day.
  5. Check off each step as you complete it.
You can add extra steps or skip steps on any given day. These changes are for that day only — your saved template stays the same.

Customizing Templates for Different Products

If you bake different types of products on different days, create a template for each.
  • Bread day template — Starter feeding, bulk ferment, shaping, proofing, baking.
  • Cookie batch template — Scale ingredients, mix doughs, portion, chill, bake, cool, package.
  • Market prep template — Pull inventory, label and price, pack display items, load vehicle.
Having separate templates keeps each day focused. You always know exactly what needs to happen and in what order.
Pro tip: After a few baking days, revisit your templates. Add steps you keep doing manually and remove steps that no longer apply. A well-maintained template saves you real time.
