Overview
Not every customer pays online. When someone pays with cash, check, Venmo, or any method outside Stripe, you can record it manually on the invoice. Knead tracks the payment the same way it tracks a Stripe payment — your balance and status update automatically. When to Record a Manual Payment
Record a manual payment any time a customer pays you through a channel Stripe does not capture. Common scenarios:- Cash at pickup or delivery — The customer hands you cash when they collect their order.
- Check — You receive a check in the mail or at a farmers market.
- Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal — The customer sends money through a peer-to-peer app.
- Bank transfer — The customer wires funds directly to your account.
How to Record a Payment
- Open the invoice from The Counter.
- Tap Record Payment.
- Enter the amount received.
- Add an optional note describing the payment method (e.g., “Cash at pickup” or “Venmo 3/15”).
- Tap Save.
What Happens After You Record
Knead recalculates the invoice based on the payment you entered.- Partial payment — If the amount is less than the remaining balance, the invoice status changes to Partially Paid. The remaining balance is visible on the invoice detail.
- Full payment — If the amount covers the remaining balance, the invoice status changes to Paid. The order reflects the completed payment.
Mixing Stripe and Manual Payments
You can combine Stripe and manual payments on the same invoice. This is common with deposits. For example, a customer pays a 50 cash for the remaining balance. Record the cash payment, and the invoice is fully paid with two payment entries — one from Stripe and one manual. Knead shows both payments in the invoice’s payment history with the method and amount for each.Good to know: Manual payments do not incur Stripe processing fees. Only payments processed through the Stripe Pay Now button have fees deducted.
Editing or Removing a Manual Payment
If you record the wrong amount, you can correct it.- Open the invoice from The Counter.
- Find the manual payment in the payment history.
- Tap the payment to edit or remove it.
- The invoice balance recalculates automatically.
