Overview

Most of what you make is a variation on something you’ve already built — a seasonal flavor, a similar cake, a repeat order for a returning client. The Duplicate action makes an independent copy in one click, so you can tweak the copy without touching the original.

What you can duplicate

The Duplicate action exists on five things:
  • Recipes/pantry/recipes/[id], a Duplicate button (copy icon). Shows “Duplicating…” while it works.
  • Products/products/[id], a small copy icon button (labeled “Duplicate ”).
  • Orders/orders/[id], a Duplicate button.
  • Quotes/quotes/[id].
  • Ingredients/pantry/ingredients/[id].

How it works

  1. Open the record you want to copy.
  2. Click Duplicate.
  3. Knead creates an independent copy named “Copy of (then “Copy of (2)”, “(3)”, and so on if you duplicate again).
  4. You’re navigated to the new copy, and a toast confirms it — e.g. Duplicated "{name}" or Duplicated order {number}.
The copy is fully editable and completely independent of the original. Changing one never affects the other.

When to use it

  • Seasonal variations — duplicate a product and swap in fall flavors.
  • Similar cakes — start a new design from one that’s close.
  • Repeat orders — duplicate a returning client’s last order instead of rebuilding it.
  • Recipe experiments — clone a recipe and adjust quantities without risking your tested version.
Pro tip: Duplicate a proven recipe before you experiment. You keep the original intact and can compare costs side by side in The Pantry.
Good to know: Rename the copy right after creating it — “Copy of Vanilla Sponge” is fine while you work, but a clear name keeps your catalog tidy.
