Overview

Knead generates clean, branded invoices directly from your orders. Once an order is confirmed, you can create an invoice, adjust line items if needed, and send it to your customer by email.

Creating an Invoice from an Order

  1. Open the order you want to invoice from The Counter.
  2. Tap Create Invoice.
  3. Knead pulls in the order details automatically — items, quantities, sell units, and prices.
Each line item shows the product name, quantity, sell unit (e.g., “2 dozen” or “1 loaf”), unit price, and line total. The invoice total is calculated at the bottom.

Adjusting Line Items and Adding Notes

You can edit the invoice before sending it.
  • Change quantities or prices — Tap any line item to update the quantity or unit price.
  • Remove a line item — Tap the delete icon next to any item you want to drop.
  • Add a line item — Tap Add Item to include something that wasn’t on the original order.
  • Add a note — Use the notes field at the bottom for pickup instructions, allergy info, or a thank-you message. Your customer sees this on the invoice.
Pro tip: Use the notes field for pickup details like “Ready after 2 PM Saturday” so your customer has everything in one place.

Sending the Invoice

  1. Review the invoice details and total.
  2. Tap Send Invoice.
  3. Knead emails the invoice to your customer at the email address on file for the order.
Your customer receives a professional email with your business name, a summary of the order, and the total due. If you have Stripe connected, the email includes a Pay Now button so they can pay online.

What Your Customer Sees

When your customer opens the invoice email, they see:
  • Your business name and logo
  • A line-by-line breakdown of their order
  • The total amount due
  • Any notes you added
  • A link to pay online (if Stripe is connected)
Customers do not need a Knead account to view or pay an invoice.

Marking an Invoice as Paid

If a customer pays you outside of Stripe — cash, Venmo, check — you can record it manually.
  1. Open the invoice from The Counter.
  2. Tap Mark as Paid.
  3. The invoice status updates to Paid and the order reflects the payment.
Good to know: When a customer pays through Stripe, the invoice is marked as paid automatically. No manual step needed.
