Overview

Terms and conditions protect you and set expectations with your customer. Knead lets you write default terms once and have them appear on every quote automatically. You can also customize terms on individual quotes when needed.

Setting Default Terms

  1. Tap Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Tap Quoting.
  3. Find the Default Terms & Conditions text area.
  4. Enter your terms. Common items to include:
    • Cancellation policy and refund rules.
    • Deposit requirements and payment deadlines.
    • Allergen disclaimers.
    • Delivery or pickup expectations.
    • Changes and revision policies.
  5. Tap Save.
Every new quote you create from this point forward auto-populates with these terms.
Pro tip: Keep your terms concise and written in plain language. Customers are more likely to read and approve when the terms are clear and short.

Editing Terms on a Specific Quote

Your default terms are a starting point. You can edit them on any individual quote without changing your defaults.
  1. Open the quote editor.
  2. Scroll to the Terms & Conditions section at the bottom.
  3. Edit the text as needed for this specific quote.
  4. Send the quote.
Changes you make here apply to this quote only. Your default terms remain unchanged for future quotes.
Good to know: If you update your default terms in Settings, existing quotes are not affected. The new defaults apply to quotes you create after the change.

What Your Customer Sees

On the quote approval page, your terms and conditions appear below the line items and above the signature area. The customer sees the full text before they sign. By signing the quote, your customer acknowledges the terms. The signed quote — including the terms — is stored as a record you can reference later.

Tips for Writing Good Terms

  • Be specific about cancellations. State how far in advance a customer must cancel and whether they receive a refund.
  • Cover allergens. A short disclaimer about shared kitchen equipment or ingredient handling protects you.
  • State your revision policy. Let customers know how many revisions are included and when revision requests must be made.
  • Keep it short. Three to five sentences cover most home bakery situations.
