Overview

Products are the foundation of your Knead catalog. Each product includes a name, description, sell unit, price, and an optional inline recipe. Once published, products appear on The Board for customers to order.

Step 1: Start a New Product

  1. Tap Products in the sidebar.
  2. Tap New Product.
  3. Enter a product name (for example, “Chocolate Chip Cookies” or “Sourdough Boule”).
  4. Add a description that tells customers what they are getting. Mention flavors, sizes, or dietary details here.

Step 2: Choose Your Sell Unit

  1. Find the Sell Unit dropdown.
  2. Pick the unit that matches how you price and sell this product.
Common sell units include each, dozen, half dozen, two dozen, box, loaf, and batch. The sell unit you choose flows everywhere: your order form (“How many dozen?”), invoices (“3 dozen @ $28”), recipe scaling, and cost calculations.
Pro tip: If you sell cookies by the dozen but cakes by the each, set each product’s sell unit independently. There is no global default.

Step 3: Set Your Base Price

  1. Enter the base price for one sell unit.
This is the price customers see on The Board. If your sell unit is “dozen” and your price is 28,customerssee"28, customers see "28 per dozen.”

Step 4: Add Variants (Optional)

If your product comes in multiple sizes or flavors at different price points:
  1. Tap Add Variant.
  2. Enter a variant name (for example, “6-inch” or “8-inch”).
  3. Set the price for each variant.
  4. Repeat for additional variants.
Variants appear as selectable options on The Board. Customers pick the variant they want when placing an order.

Step 5: Build Your Recipe Inline

Recipe creation happens right inside the product form. You do not need to create recipes separately.
  1. Scroll to the Recipe section of the product form.
  2. Tap Add Ingredient.
  3. Start typing an ingredient name. A type-ahead dropdown appears with suggestions.
  4. Select an existing ingredient or create a new one on the fly.
  5. Enter the quantity and unit for this ingredient (for example, 2 cups flour).
  6. Repeat for each ingredient in your recipe.
Good to know: When you sign up, Knead pre-seeds your account with common baking ingredients — flour, sugar, salt, butter, eggs, and milk. These are ready to use immediately in the type-ahead.
Every ingredient you add lives in The Pantry. If you type an ingredient that does not exist yet, Knead creates it for you and adds it to The Pantry automatically. The next time you create a product, that ingredient is available in the type-ahead.

Step 6: Publish Your Product

  1. Review your product details, pricing, and recipe.
  2. Tap Save to add the product to your catalog.
Published products are immediately visible on The Board. Customers can browse and include them in order requests.
Pro tip: Start with your three to five best sellers. You can always add more products later without disrupting existing orders.
