# Price Ranges and Inquiry-Only Products

> Show automatic price ranges or hide pricing entirely for custom work that's quoted after design.

## Overview

Not every product has one fixed price. Some span a range because their options cost different amounts, and some — like wedding cakes — can't be priced until you've seen the brief. Knead handles both on the public order form (**The Board**, `/order/[slug]`): automatic **price ranges** and an explicit **Inquiry only** mode.

## Price ranges (automatic)

Price ranges are **not** a manual min/max field — they're calculated from your **Options**.

When a product's **Options** have choices at different prices, the menu card shows a range. For example, a "Detail level" option priced Simple \$72, Simple+ \$75, Detailed \$78 displays as:

**\$72 – \$78/dozen**

If options are hidden on the form, the card instead shows **Starting at \$X/unit**. Add-ons are excluded from the headline range.

You set this up through Options on the product page — see [Variants, Sizes, and Add-Ons](/products-and-pricing/variants-sizes-and-add-ons).

## Inquiry-only products

For custom work where price depends on the design, use the **Inquiry only** toggle on the product page (`/products/[id]`):

> "Customer sees this product on the menu but has to ask for a quote. Options and add-ons are hidden; you set the final price after you see what they want."

The toggle is only enabled when the product is active and publicly visible via **Customers can request this**.

### What customers see

On the order form, an inquiry-only product shows an **Inquire** pill and an **Inquire →** button instead of **+ Add**. When a customer selects it, they see "Quoted after design details" and a required field:

* **Tell us what you're looking for** — "Number of people, flavors, themes, inspiration photos — anything that helps quote this."

<Note>Good to know: Cards may also show "· options available" and "+ optional add-ons available" so customers know there's more to choose once they start.</Note>

<Tip>Pro tip: Use inquiry-only for custom and wedding work, and price ranges for menu items with tiered options. That way browsers always see a number where one exists, and you only quote by hand when the design truly drives the price.</Tip>
