# Why Your First Payouts Take Longer

> New bakeries get a short payout hold. Here is how long it lasts and when it ends.

## Overview

When you first start taking card payments through Knead, Stripe holds each payment for about **10 days** before it pays out to your bank. After you have a little payment history, payouts speed up to Stripe's normal **2 business days** on their own. You don't need to do anything.

Your customers are not affected. They pay the same way, and their payment shows on the invoice right away.

## Why There Is a Hold

Stolen credit cards are a real problem for anyone who sells online. When a stolen card is used, the real cardholder disputes the charge weeks later, and the money has to go back.

A short hold on a brand-new account means that if a bad payment slips through, it can be caught and returned before the money has left. It protects you, your customers, and every other baker on Knead. Established bakeries don't have the hold.

<Note>Good to know: The hold only changes *when* Stripe sends money to your bank. It does not change how much you are paid, and it does not add any fee.</Note>

## When Payouts Speed Up

Your payouts move to the normal 2-business-day schedule once both of these are true:

* You have received **5 card payments** through Knead.
* Your **first card payment was at least 30 days ago**.

Knead checks this each time a payment comes in and switches you over automatically. There is no form to fill out and nothing to request.

<Tip>Pro tip: If you need money from an order sooner while you are new, a customer can pay you directly by cash, check, or Venmo. Record it on the invoice as a manual payment — see [Recording Manual Payments](/invoicing-and-payments/recording-manual-payments).</Tip>

## What You Will See

* **On the invoice** — The payment shows as paid right away, with the processing fee and net amount, just like any other payment.
* **In The Jar** — The money shows as earned. It appears under payouts once Stripe sends it.
* **In Payout History** — Payouts appear later than they will once the hold ends. The amounts are the same.

## Common Questions

**Can I ask for the hold to be removed early?**
If you have been selling for a while and the hold is causing a real problem, email us at [hello@kneadapp.co](mailto:hello@kneadapp.co) and tell us a bit about your bakery. We can review it.

**Does the hold start over with each payment?**
No. Each payment has its own hold of about 10 days. Once you meet the two conditions above, all new payments use the normal schedule.

**Does my payout frequency setting still apply?**
Yes. Daily or weekly still controls how often Stripe sends what is available. The hold controls when a payment *becomes* available.
